About Kindred

We started with one well. Fifteen years later, we’re still counting.

Kindred began in 2011 when a group of friends funded a single borewell in Barmer. Today we work in 14 districts with 320 local staff.

Our mission

Lasting change, led by the communities we serve

We don’t parachute in. Every program is designed with a village council, a school committee or a women’s group who own it after we step back.

That’s slower at the start, but it’s why 94% of the wells we built in 2014 still run today.

What we believe

Three promises we keep to every donor

Radical transparency

Every program publishes its budget, costs and outcomes. You can see exactly what your gift paid for.

Local leadership

Programs are run by people from the community. We fund, train and step back.

Built to last

We measure success five years later, not at the ribbon cutting.

Our team

The people behind the work

A small core team in Pune, supported by 320 field staff who live where they work.
